Say builders receive more permits in one place than another. This scales permits to the housing stock. A permit is permission to build, not a completed home.
Reading the number
Group: Jobs. Units: permits/1k homes. This measure is repeated from county-level data; neighboring ZIPs can share it.
Source and date
Census Building Permits Survey. Expected interval: about 30 days. This is a schedule, not proof that a refresh succeeded.
A guide update is not a data refresh. The source period and collection date, when available, are on the app’s data details. A missing date is unknown, never today. Check freshness.
Access and limits
